Carman to Release New Album, Go on Tour, Despite Cancer

Christian music veteran Carman, who was diagnosed with incurable cancer earlier this year, has raised more than $233,000 to fund his first independent album in a decade.

He credited kickstarter.com, a "crowd-funding" website that raises money for creative projects, to help pay for his first independent album and music video.

Launched April 19, Carman's campaign exceeded its $200,000 goal in 25 days, making it the second most-funded music project on Kickstarter, the singer and evangelist said. The campaign's deadline is June 18, and fans can continue to make donations.

"I'm so excited about this incredible opportunity we all have through Kickstarter to make something happen as a team and a family," Carman said. "Cancer pronounced a death sentence, but you have been life to me, rallying me back into the fight and praying me back to my feet. As one fan said on my Facebook page, 'Look at what Jesus did in three years.' So as for you and me, with this new project and us working together, the next three years are going to be a blast."

Wow! I’m sitting here in St. Thomas, USVI reading over all the wonderful greetings and blessings from friends all over the world. My heart is touched deeply! And, I receive all of your many blessings and kind words! Yes, God has been so faithful!

Several of you have asked how it all began, so I thought I’d respond briefly. Laura and I got married May 19th, 1973 after a concert in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We had been touring South Africa and Europe for 12 months prior to that. Laura was a nanny to Evangelist Terry Law’s 8 month old girl (Misty) and our team photographer! We had met at Oral Roberts University two years earlier in April 1971. It was love at first sight (at least for me!). It took Laura a little longer!! Ha!!

Kirk Franklin's Gospel Brunch

Gospel icon Kirk Franklin made it a very special Mother’s Day for two sold-out sittings at the inaugural Kirk Franklin’s Gospel Brunch at House of Blues on sunday in West Hollywood, CA.  Mr. Franklin, who for the past few months has been hard at work alongside House of Blues producers creating a new Gospel brunch experience, was at the club’s West Hollywood location to oversee the debut of the reinvented Sunday institution, currently celebrating its 20th year.

The Grammy Award winning performer couldn't be kept off the stage as he led the band and choir through a number of inspirational classics.  Kirk Franklin’s Gospel Brunch at House of Blues is a celebration of the audience as much as one of America’s most distinctive genres of music.  Mr. Franklin encouraged audience involvement throughout the set, bringing up music fans young and old to sing and participate in the festive performance.  The result was an uplifting, get-on-your-feet celebration heavy on love and celebration of friends and family.

NEWS:Former Commisioned Lead singer Keith Staten signs New Record deal

If you are a commissioned fan then you will remember Keith Staten. He was an original member of commissioned until 1991 when he left to pursue a solo career. Luther Mano Hanes, President/CEO of Riverphlo Entertainment announced the signing of former Commissioned lead singer Keith Staten this week. The Riverphlo family of artists already includes multiple Grammy and Dove award winner Andrae Crouch, Vonnie Lopez and Leon Timbo.

“This is a great day for our Riverphlo team,” said Riverphlo President, Mano Hanes. “Keith Staten is not only one of gospel’s most distinguished voices but is a true worshiper. As one of my biggest influences, Keith helped shape the sound and legacy of the great gospel group Commissioned. I am truly humbled and honored to help shape his solo career.”

The album will be Staten’s first studio recording in over 15 years and is scheduled for a 4th quarter release.

NEWS: Muyiwa & Riversongz Sign New Deal With Global Organization Food For The Hungry

On 10th May 2013 Muyiwa & Riversongz become the first group/artist from the UK Gospel industry to sign an agreement with global organization Food For The Hungry.

Food For The Hungry is a Christian organisation engaged in sustainable development work in some of the poorest regions of the world. They believe that communities themselves can overcome the poverty in which they live, which is why they walk together with community churches, leaders and families to find sustainable solutions.

Muyiwa & Riversongz join a plethora of established Christian artists that represent Food For The Hungry in their respective countries such as tobyMac, Leeland, Brandon Heath, Mandisa, Jesus Culture and more.

“For me the big thing about it is that it’s not just working with a charity; I’ve done that before on our first tour with World Vision and work with Compassion,” says Muyiwa. This is more than just sponsoring a child. A relationship is being built and God is enabling us to touch lives around the world and raise the profile of this great initiative.
